DTM Zandvoort: Race 1 at a glance

With his BMW M4 DTM, Marco Wittmann won the first of two DTM races at Zandvoort in The Netherlands. Behind the reigning DTM champion, six further BMW drivers followed in second to seventh place: António Félix da Costa, Maxime Martin, Augusto Farfus, Bruno Spengler, Timo Glock and Tom Blomqvist. Audi drivers Mike Rockenfeller and Nico Müller finished in eighth and ninth place respectively, Pascal Wehrlein was classified tenth as the best-placed Mercedes-Benz driver.

 

18.00 Drivers get underway for the formation lap.
Start Wittmann takes the lead. Felix da Costa overtakes Farfus for second. Martin also gets past the Brazilian who is only fourth coming out of the first corner.
Lap 1 Di Resta crashes coming out of Gerlach. Safety car is deployed.
Lap 2 Order behind the safety car: Wittmann is leading from Félix da Costa, Martin, Farfus, Paffett, Green, Spengler, Blomqvist, Glock and Rockenfeller. The incident between Wickens and Di Resta is under investigation.
Lap 5 The safety car will come in at the end of this lap. Mortara into the pits, has his tyres changed. Tomczyk into the pits, he has a problem on his car and retires.
Lap 6 Restart. Mortara into the pits again, he retires.
Lap 7 No further action after the incident between Wickens and Di Resta.
Lap 8 Ekström overtakes Molina under braking for Tarzan and is now 15th.
Lap 9 DRS has now been enabled.
Lap 11 In first and second place, Wittmann and Félix da Costa pull a slight gap from the rest of the field. They are some 2.5 seconds ahead.
Lap 12 Wehrlein attacks Vietoris and overtakes him for twelfth.
Lap 13 Paffett is putting Farfus under pressure in the battle for fourth. Molina into the pits and retires.
Lap 15 Spengler attacks Green for sixth at Tarzan, but to no avail. Wickens into the pits, he retires.
Lap 16 Tambay and Wehrlein overtake Vietoris for twelfth. Later, Vietoris loses another place to Ekström.
Lap 18 Félix da Costa puts Wittmann under pressure for the lead under braking for Tarzan, but the German stays in front. Green crashes out at T9.
Lap 19 Slow zone 2 deployed.
Lap 20 Slow zone 2 has ended.
Lap 21 The battle for the lead is on! With four minutes remaining, Félix da Costa keeps Wittmann under pressure.
Lap 22 Tambay under investigation for infringement of the slow zone.
Lap 23 Tambay gets a drive through.
Lap 24 Paffett attacks Farfus for fourth on the outside of Tarzan, but to no avail. The Brit crashes out at Scheivlak.
Lap 25 Tambay drives into the pits for his drive-through.
Finish BMW locks out the first seven places: Wittmann wins from Félix da Costa, Martin, Farfus, Spengler, Glock, Blomqvist, Rockenfeller, Müller and Wehrlein.
