Eriksson two thousandths ahead of fellow BMW driver Farfus
The first three drivers ranked within three thousandths of a second in second free practice at Hockenheim on Saturday. A rookie driver was fastest: Joel Eriksson posted a time of 1m32.914s and ended up in first place ahead of fellow BMW driver Augusto Farfus (1m32.916s). Next up was Gary Paffett (1m32.917s) with his Mercedes-AMG, the first of the three title candidates. “It is a sunny day. In free practice, it is more about the feeling in the car. The pace was good. I am looking forward to qualifying,” Paffett said.
Defending champion René Rast was classified fifth with a time of 1m33.010s, one place behind his fellow Audi driver Nico Müller (1m32.959s). “In qualifying, it will be really close. This was just a little appetizer of what is to come. Everybody will try to quench the last thousandths of a second from their cars,” the Swiss Audi driver said. Paul Di Resta was classified 15thwith his Mercedes-AMG and a time of 1m33.488s.
The starting grid positions for the first race will be determined in first qualifying from 10.55 hrs. The race starts at 13.30 hrs. The action will be streamed live at DTM.com/live and in the DTM apps for iOS and Android.
