Green to start from pole position in the race on Saturday
The starting grid positions for the first race of the DTM season have been determined: in qualifying for the race on Saturday, Jamie Green (Audi) claimed pole position at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg. With a lap time of 1:33.044 minutes, he was 0.116 seconds faster than Pascal Wehrlein (Mercedes-Benz), who will be lining up in second place on the front row of the grid. Third place in the 20 minutes’ qualifying session went to Augusto Farfus (BMW), who was 0.266 seconds down on Green’s time. The extremely compact qualifying session made the gaps even smaller: the first 18 drivers were separated by only 0.608 seconds. ARD is broadcasting the first of the two races at Hockenheim on Saturday live on TV from 14.30 hrs.
Jamie Green (1st place, Audi): “Of course, I am really happy with first place. After the first impressions of this weekend, many people probably expected a different outcome of this qualifying. But this is the DTM for you. I love that. And for the fans, it is certainly great, too. I think that this new format is good for everyone. I am really enjoying it. Now, we have to wait and see what I will be able to achieve in today’s race. I hope that I can benefit from my first place on the grid and have a clean run out in front. Then, I won’t have to bother about hard duels either.”
Pascal Wehrlein (2nd place, Mercedes-Benz): “I had a good feeling when I woke up this morning. In fact, that is usually the case. Anyway, this was a good start. I can be very happy with second place, that is quite all right- For qualifying, there are still some minor issues, which is why I am looking forward to the race. My place on the front row of the grid is making me very optimistic. Now, I want to attack Jamie Green. Attack out in front, no matter what – like in every race.”
Augusto Farfus (3rd place, BMW): “This definitely is a good start. We have been working hard to get a good package for this weekend. I reckon that my car is good and that we are getting the maximum from our package. Therefore, I am confident for today’s race. From third place on the grid, I want to attack to the max. I will be racing flat out from the very first lap onwards.”
