Hardship for BMW: grid penalties for Wittmann and Farfus
The two BMW drivers Marco Wittmann and Augusto Farfus were penalised for their infringements in first qualifying at Lausitzring. With the lines they had chosen, both drivers impeded other drivers on their fast laps and thus prevented them from claiming a possibly better starting grid position.
As a consequence, the two were dropped five places further down the grid for the race on Saturday evening. For Wittmann, this means eleventh place while fellow BMW driver Farfus drops to the last row on the grid. There, he will be joined by Audi driver Adrien Tambay, who was also dropped following an engine repair.
