Mortara also on top in second free practice
His dress rehearsals are absolutely successful: Edoardo Mortara (Audi) also posted the fastest time in second free practice on Saturday morning. The Italian completed his fastest lap of the Hockenheimring in 1:32.672 minutes and thus ended up in first place, just like he had done in first free practice on Friday. Mortara’s fellow Audi driver Jamie Green (1:32.774 minutes) was classified second, BMW driver Tom Blomqvist (1:32.796 minutes) came third.
The Audis put in a strong overall performance as six of the brand’s drivers were classified in the top ten. The only Mercedes-Benz driver to make it into the first ten was Pascal Wehrlein: the 20-year-old was eighth fastest (1:32.962 minutes).
In second free practice, Lucas Auer (Mercedes-Benz) finally got the chance to rack up a sufficient number of laps at the track. During roll-out on Friday, his Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM got stuck due to a transmission problem. In the subsequent first free practice, the DTM novice couldn’t take part at all. On Saturday morning, things didn’t go too well for the 20-year-old either. He locked up massively under braking for the hairpin; his fastest lap time was the second slowest in the entire field.
On Saturday afternoon, every tenth of a second counts for the first time. Qualifying starts at noon and can be watched in the live stream at DTM.com. For 20 minutes, the 24 drivers will battle against the clock to secure a good starting grid position for the subsequent race. The first race of the 2015 DTM season will start on Saturday afternoon at 14.48 hrs.
